René Demeurisse was a prolific and multi-faceted painter. He is known for portraits, landscapes, still lifes, and figurative works. He began his exhibition career at the Salon de la Societé Nationale des Beaux-Arts. Later, he exhibited at the Salon des Independants and the Salon d’Automn He was a co-founder of the Salon des Tuileries in the 1920’s. He was great friends with the noted French sculptor François Pompon. Upon the sculptor's death in 1933, Demeurisse wrote the biographical entry for his friend for the Benezit Dictionaries des Peintres.

Demeurisse was named a Chevalier de la Legion d’ honneur by the French State for his contributions to French art.
