VVFA Modern | Artists | Victor L. Charreton (French, 1864 - 1936)
Victor Charreton began his professional life as a lawyer, but ultimately was called to painting and became a masterful artist. He studied with Hareux and Japy, both of whom were early influences on the artist. He debuted at the Salon in 1894, and then in Paris later that same year. He received a silver medal from the Salon in 1913, and was thereafter asked to serve on the Comité for the brief remainder of his life (he died later that same year). He was a founding member of the Salon d’Automne and also it’s Secretary, and was an officer of the Legion d’Honneur.
Work by Charreton is housed in many museum collections, both domestic and abroad, including those in Charleston, Cleveland, Concord, Madrid, New York, Brooklyn, New Orleans and Paris (Luxembourg and Petit Palais)
